Two mysterious astronauts connected by one impossible, looping life-support system. Space Brothers was developed from an original pencil concept into a finished cosmic illustration.

The Original Concept

From Pencil To Final

The Space Brothers were inspired by the classic rubber hose cartoon style of the 1920s and 1930s. I always liked the exaggerated movement, oversized gloves and flexible arms and legs that gave those characters so much personality.

I wanted to take some of that style and mix it with the things that inspired me growing up. Hip hop culture, b boys, graffiti, video games, comic books and my fascination with space exploration all played a part in how these characters came together.

There is also something personal behind the Space Brothers. I grew up with an older brother and we had plenty of adventures together when we were younger. That relationship became part of the idea. Two brothers exploring, getting into things and experiencing different adventures together.

The Space Brothers became my way of taking an old school cartoon style that I loved and mixing it with my own childhood, culture and imagination.
